Director of Accounting

Director of Global Accounting | PE-Backed Manufacturing Group | Stuttgart Area

We are partnering with a Private Equity-backed industrial group in the Stuttgart area to appoint a Director of Global Accounting.

This is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership role within an international platform, with direct exposure to the CFO, CEO, and PE sponsor. The position will play a critical part in strengthening financial governance, driving transparency, and supporting value creation in a performance‑driven environment.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CFO, you will take full ownership of global accounting across the group, leading a team of ~10 professionals across multiple jurisdictions. You will operate in a hands‑on capacity, ensuring high‑quality, timely financial reporting while building scalable processes and controls aligned with Private Equity standards.

This role is particularly suited to candidates who combine strong technical accounting expertise with a pragmatic, delivery‑focused mindset and are comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, evolving PE environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage global accounting operations across all entities (IFRS / HGB and local GAAPs)
• Oversee and actively drive monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to tight deadlines
• Manage, develop, and mentor a distributed team of ~10 across group accounting
• Ensure robust financial governance, internal controls, and compliance across jurisdictions
• Act as primary point of contact for external auditors, advisors, and regulatory bodies
• Drive standardisation and harmonisation of accounting policies, processes, and reporting frameworks
• Play a key role in PE reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and consistency of financial information
• Support M&A activities including due diligence, integration, and alignment of accounting practices
• Partner closely with Controlling/FP&A to ensure alignment between accounting and performance reporting
• Lead system and process improvements, including ERP optimisation and automation initiatives

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience in a senior global accounting role within a Private Equity‑backed or similarly fast‑paced environment
• Strong technical expertise in IFRS and German GAAP (HGB)
• Background in manufacturing / industrial sectors
• Demonstrated experience managing and developing international accounting teams
• Hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and comfortable operating both strategically and operationally
• Track record of improving processes, controls, and reporting in complex organisations
• Experience in M&A environments and working closely with investors is highly desirable
• Fluent in German and English
