Research Associate Hybrid Wheat (f/m/d) – part time 60%

Location: Bad Salzuflen, Germany.

Employment: part-time 60%.

Contract: permanent.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support Wheat Breeding Lead in all aspects of breeding pipeline progression – execution, implementation and management of breeding projects in the field and greenhouse (pre-)selections and crossbreeding trials.
• Technical organization of sowing, breeding field management, coordination of harvest and sowing preparation.
• Recording and inputting breeding data, and development of breeding plant material through planning, breeding and material tracking tools.
• Instruction and breeding support of the operational team and training of technical‑operational and seasonal staff.
• Operate within the budget‑driven framework of the breeding programme, ensuring appropriate resource planning and allocation with focus on cost‑of‑good (CoG) level.
• Work on conventional line material and later as part of a hybrid wheat programme.
• Develop wheat varieties for the Continental Winter Zone EU with market opportunities according to the TPP.
• Leverage internal and external R&D capabilities to support the programme with new and efficient technical innovations.
• Secure a seed pipeline in quantity and quality for efficient seed development and transfer to seed production, product evaluation, marketing and sales.

Qualifications

• Master of Science (or equivalent) in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Biology, or a related field.
• Deep knowledge of breeding methodologies, agronomy, and winter wheat market/quality profiles.
• Extensive hands‑on experience managing both field and greenhouse trials from setup to execution.
• Fluency in English and German (written/spoken) for collaboration with regional teams and stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in using databases and MS Office to process large datasets.
• Structured, independent, and stress‑resistant work style with focus on precision and priority setting.
