Program Description

Airbus Defence & Space is working on a new satellite based communication system. The constellation of satellites will offer connectivity to the customer, allowing connecting elements through satellite RF and optical links.

Job Description

In order to actively monitor and control the Mission configuration for the communication chain, a set of new tools is under development at Airbus DS. These tools will allow actively managing the overall communication chain, including Space and Ground assets, in order to reach the needed coverage and performances.

Task Description

As a Ground Station & AI Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, integration and validation of the software that enables Mission and Ground Station management using AI technologies where possible. The work will involve both internal team development and subcontracting. The application consists of a set of software modules that allow the simulation, commanding and monitoring of a cutting‑edge payload, as well as overall traffic configuration. You will be responsible for defining software requirements, performing system and software design, and supporting integration, verification and validation (IVV).

Your tasks include:

  • Analyze customer requirements and contribute to the definition of the adequate internal system, subsystems and software requirements.
  • Support the definition of the software architecture, ensuring robustness and compatibility with existing software modules and AI engines where needed.
  • Develop application solutions to enable smooth Mission and Ground Station management, possibly using Airbus internal or external AI services.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, with particular focus on the design phase.
  • Analyze software non‑conformances, discrepancies and waivers.
  • Analyze data from validation tests to determine whether systems and processes meet required criteria and specifications.

Skills Required

Background and experience:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Aerospace or other related Engineering.
  • Considerable experience in software architecture and development in the field of Ground Segment (e.g., Ground Stations, SCC, PCC).
  • Familiarity with ground station concepts: RF chains, antenna control systems, signal processing and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience in BackEnd / FrontEnd software architecture & development principles and methods (UML, Spring Boot framework, OOP, microservices).
  • Experience with software IVV tools and methods (CI/CD pipelines, unit, integration & end‑to‑end testing).
  • Knowledge of AGILE Development Lifecycle (Kanban, SCRUM, SAFe).
  • Experience with development or integration of AI engines in software products is a plus.
  • Knowledge of modern Systems Engineering techniques and tools (MBSE, DOORS, EA, CAMEO) is a plus.
  • Experience with ECSS‑40C process is a plus.
  • Ability to operate and efficiently communicate in a multi‑national team organisation.
  • Language skills: English fluent, German a plus.
