Supervisory Aerospace Engineer, AST, Aerospace Flight Systems

Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Aerospace Engineer and Senior Program Manager, responsible for managing space and aeronautical flight systems, vehicles, and/or payloads. Duties include defining design and operational requirements, leading hardware and software development, conducting testing, verification, safety assessments, integration, certification, and operational oversight.

Major Duties

• Supervises employees; identifies strategic objectives; defines and assigns work; establishes technical work requirements and milestones; evaluates accomplishments; recommends employee recognition or corrective actions.
• Oversees, administers, and supervises professional scientists/engineers and contract aerospace engineers to incorporate new technologies, improve reliability, extend vehicle life, and reduce total ownership costs.
• Performs project management for space and aeronautical systems, vehicles, and/or payloads, including design and operational requirements definition, hardware/software development, and management of testing, safety, integration, certification, or operations.
• Oversees, advises, administers, or performs professional scientific and technical work to develop, test, evaluate, research, operate, maintain, remodel, or decommission aircraft and/or spacecraft.
• Plans, researches, designs, develops, tests, evaluates, analyzes costs, and manages programs and projects.
• Monitors contracted work, either externally or on-site at the contractor’s facility.
• Investigates phenomena in aerospace flight, monitors and analyzes unknown or unfamiliar aerospace vehicles, pilots aerospace vehicles, and develops aviation safety standards and regulations.
• Conducts specialized studies on flight vehicles, assessing major system components and airborne equipment for safety, suitability, and operational effectiveness.

Education & Qualifications

• Successfully completed a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ABET accredited), Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, or Computer Science with 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in mathematics, statistics and computer science, including differential and integral calculus.
• For Computer Science majors, coursework must include at least half in mathematics and statistics covering calculus, with a clear understanding of theoretical and practical computer science concepts such as computer system architecture, software organization, and data representation.
• Graduate degree in a qualifying AST field may be acceptable if the bachelor’s degree does not meet the criteria.
• Engineering degrees earned in the United States must come from an institution with at least one ABET accredited engineering program.
• Foreign engineering degrees must be recognized by a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or evaluated by an accredited private organization to be deemed equivalent to a U.S. accredited program.
• Science and related degrees earned in the United States must be from institutions accredited by recognized accrediting bodies; foreign degrees must be evaluated for equivalency.
