Engineers on the team are responsible for one or more vehicle systems for Model S/3/X/Y; Semi or CyberTruck (specific to EVs and High Voltage or traditional Automotive components). This is a very hands‑on individual contributor role with duties focused on failure analysis and root‑cause activities.

We are seeking a multi‑faceted Electrical or Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root‑causing, implementing counter‑measures, and reporting on issues affecting infotainment, low voltage, or power electronics components. To be effective, the Field Reliability Engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these electro‑mechanical assemblies and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. They will work with other Engineering teams to quickly mitigate and implement counter‑measures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, durability of the products.

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor product field performance, identify trending issues and prioritize based on severity, occurrence, and/or cost of each failure mode.
  • Perform detailed failure analysis, including board‑level, component, or system‑level debugging to isolate faults for physical FA.
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical, electrical engineering and PCBA manufacturing to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production, design, supplier and firmware.
  • Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy‑in from engineering peers and leadership on improvement priorities and urgency.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive actions.
  • Share lessons learned from previous field issues; provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated (DFMEAs).
  • Take part in ongoing optimization of the products and processes (performance, cost, technology).

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Power Electronics, Electronics, Mechatronic or similar fields or equivalent experience.
  • Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands‑on role such as Failure Analysis/Quality/Service in consumer electronics or automotive.
  • Ability to navigate existing software/firmware tools and logs to identify and label failure modes encountered.
  • Experience with entry‑level candidates, Co‑ops or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE or Solar vehicle.
  • Broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service and suppliers across a wide variety of issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving and failure analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Proficient in PCBA level troubleshooting and debugging.
  • Demonstrated success in applying statistical methods and tools.
  • Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data.
  • Programming languages & tools: Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
