What you’ll build:

At SAP University Alliances we partner with other SAP teams to provide the best services to foster strategic research collaborations between SAP and academia.

SAP’s Research & Innovation (R&I) business unit shapes the next generation of enterprise software. As part of this organization, the Applied Research team is a technology-focused and research-driven expert team that is responsible for:

• Innovating with Line of Businesses (LoBs) , advising on and solving their research challenges, and developing prototypes and new features together
• Applying the latest research results , publishing academic results, supervising theses, and ensuring strong academic collaborations such as joint research projects, guest lectures, and committees with strategically important universities
• Developing engineering and research talent with individual growth paths from idea to product

We are currently working closely with SAP Signavio and Business AI on Agent Mining and Agent Constraints, and we’re always looking for new topics in AI, data management, user experience, and cloud computing.

What you bring:

This position is especially attractive for PhD graduates and research‑interested persons who want to work on the interface between academia and industry, have their own ideas and are ready to bring them into products, and are not afraid to learn something new every day. We are looking for exceptional candidates to strengthen our applied research group who are interested in both conceptual work and software engineering.

Required skills and competencies:

• Very good Ph.D. degree in computer science (or a submitted PhD thesis), software engineering, or a related field
• Deep domain expertise in at least two of the following priority topics: AI, enterprise software and business processes, data management, user experience, quantum computing, robotics, or cloud computing
• Good analytical skills to assess data and present core insights clearly and compellingly
• High drive for new technologies and understanding how these help tackle enterprise challenges
• Strong programming skills and knowledge of related AI tools
• Reliable, open‑minded, and a strong team‑player, determined to reach a goal in time while also able to work independently and prioritize
• Fluent English and German language skills – written and verbal

Our Applied Research team protects the future of SAP products. It is comprised of highly skilled, innovative, and technology‑focused experts who collaborate closely with Line of Businesses to solve future business and technology challenges based on the latest research findings.
