PhD Student (m/f/d) in Energy and Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Comparable

We are looking for a PhD student to join our division “Process Simulation” as soon as possible.

Salary group 13 TVöD, Temporary contract for 36 months, 100% working time.

Responsibilities

• MI Project IE2501 “Safe Hydrogen Networks: ML‑Supported Safety Analysis and Optimized Sensor Placement”
• Research in the field of safety assessment of chemical plants using HAZOP analysis
• Use process modelling and simulation to enhance quantitative assessments
• Use machine learning to support HAZOP discussions, ultimately aiming to obtain a doctorate

Qualifications

• Successfully completed a university degree (diploma/master’s) in energy and process engineering, chemical engineering or comparable
• In‑depth knowledge of nonlinear, robust control engineering
• Knowledge of machine learning (deep learning)
• Basic knowledge of computer science or software development (Java, Python, C++)
• Good communication and information skills, goal‑oriented and structured approach to work, initiative/commitment, teamwork, conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
