Senior Technical Product Manager, Payments (m/w/d)

Berlin

About Yousician

At Yousician, our mission is to make musicality as common as literacy. We’re home to two of the world’s most popular music products: GuitarTuna – the #1 tuning app used by over 20 million musicians every month, and Yousician – the leading platform for learning and playing instruments interactively.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to design, own, and evolve the payments infrastructure powering Yousician and GuitarTuna across web and app.

You’ll be responsible for how millions of users subscribe, renew, pay, and retain access across multiple payment providers, stores, and regions. This includes checkout, entitlements, refunds, billing state, taxes, and compliance.

Rather than focusing on monetization experimentation, this role focuses on architecture, reliability, and enablement. Work with the Payments Tech Lead and engineering team to ensure every transaction is accurate, observable, and globally scalable.

Work with Product, Finance, and Growth teams to deliver pricing flexibility, experimentation, and reporting, owning the core technical substrate that makes all of that possible.

What You’ll Do

Build and evolve a unified payments platform

  • Define and deliver the roadmap for payments, checkout, and entitlements across Yousician and GuitarTuna (web + app).
  • Lead integrations with global payment service providers (currently Adyen for web; in-app billing for mobile) and ensure extensibility for future vendors or payment methods.
  • Oversee the design of a unified payments API and data model covering subscriptions, one‑time purchases, renewals, and refunds.
  • Ensure secure, PCI‑compliant payment processing and consistent reconciliation across all platforms.

Guarantee reliability, accuracy, and observability

  • Define SLAs and error budgets for payment uptime, refund accuracy, and entitlements latency.
  • Partner with backend teams to implement idempotent transaction handling, retry policies, and event‑driven reconciliation pipelines.
  • Work with Data and Finance to ensure complete, auditable visibility across transactions, payouts, and revenue recognition.
  • Build infrastructure for pricing and paywall experiments without breaking payment logic.
  • Implement flexible configuration for offers, billing cycles, introductory pricing, and geographic variations.
  • Partner with client teams to unify web and app subscription logic and entitlement validation.

Drive delivery and cross‑functional alignment

  • Translate technical requirements into clear specifications and milestones.
  • Manage concurrent work streams across backend, client, and finance stakeholders.
  • Drive implementation rhythm and unblock engineering, covering product leadership and delivery management.

What We’re Looking For

Technical experience & expertise

  • 6–10+ years of product management experience in technical payments and/or payments platform infrastructure.
  • Direct experience implementing and optimizing payment orchestration systems, subscription billing, or entitlement services.
  • Hands‑on experience defining APIs, data models, and system architecture with backend engineers.
  • Deep expertise with webhooks, idempotency, reconciliation flows, and subscription lifecycle events.
  • Mastery of app store billing (Apple, Google) and their technical and contractual differences.
  • Knowledge of tax, compliance, and invoicing workflows (VAT, PSD2, SCA, etc).
  • Comfortable with SQL or BI analytics to validate payment transaction flow and data integrity.

Delivery and leadership

  • Proven ability to manage end‑to‑end delivery of complex backend systems without dedicated Scrum or PM support.
  • Strong technical communication across engineers, finance, product, and growth teams.
  • Pragmatic operator balancing long‑term architecture goals with near‑term delivery needs.
  • Passion for reliability and correctness—viewing failed payments and entitlement bugs as critical defects.

Why Join Us

You’ll play a pivotal role in building a unified, intelligent payments and subscription platform powering Yousician and GuitarTuna.

Work with exceptional engineers and business partners, own a critical system end‑to‑end, and make a measurable impact on how millions of musicians access and pay for our products.

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • A chance to influence how millions learn and play music worldwide.
  • A high‑impact role at the intersection of marketing, data, and product.
  • Hybrid work setup in our Berlin hub with a collaborative, ambitious Growth department.
  • Competitive compensation and opportunities for personal growth in a scaling company.
