Are you passionate about building algorithmic solutions for cutting-edge robotics? Join ZEISS in innovating agriculture at the intersection of robotics, 3D Computer Vision, and AI! We are in search of an experienced, motivated, inquisitive, and results-oriented individual to help us develop perceptional algorithms for a robotic system in our newly formed AgTech department. ZEISS started a large strategic initiative to bring robotic solutions to high-end greenhouses, with an initial focus on labor automation. Therefore, we extend our dedicated team to drive this effort with a start-up mindset within ZEISS. As the selected candidate, you will be responsible for the automation, integration, and testing of various robotic features for our agricultural robot, with an emphasis on software. Integrated in a fast-growing team of scientists and research engineers, you develop algorithms that process and analyze 2D and 3D data using a combination of computer vision, machine learning, and efficient optimization techniques. We seek a proactive engineer with a hands-on mentality who thrives in a fast-paced and innovative environment. If you seek a dynamic and technology-focused work environment that presents daily challenges involving unsolved problems in computer vision, optics, and machine perception, our team is your place to be!
Primary responsibilities include:Research and Development: Screen, select, prototype, and benchmark new methods to evaluate their suitability for real-time use-cases (3D reconstruction, 3D perception, scene understanding, annotation efficiency)
Software Engineering: Understand and extend the robotic software system with new algorithmic components
Performance Optimization: Maintain real-time performance in both developed methods and the complete system
Stakeholder Alignment: Coordinate with relevant stakeholders and development teams
Leadership: Supervise interns and students
User Interaction: Engage with potential users to comprehend challenges and requirements
A university degree and proven expertise in computer vision, machine learning, or computer science
A PhD and publications in computer vision at venues such as ECCV, ICCV, CVPR is a plus
A deep understanding of 3D computer vision and current trends/methods as well as a strong dedication for mathematical modelling and in-depth knowledge of the latest technical advances (e.g. in SLAM, Structure-from-Motion and Gaussian Splatting)
A strong programming background in Python and C++, experience with ROS and/or real-time applications
Experience working with industrial cameras and 3D sensors
Keen interest in investigating complex problems and drive labor automation solutions
A resourceful team player with a willingness to help others succeed
Proficiency in English, both in written and spoken communication. German is a plus
The contract is limited for 2 years.
At ZEISS, we value innovation, collaboration, and a passion for driving change. If you are ready to take on this exciting role and contribute to the future of labor automation solutions in high-end greenhouses, we look forward to receiving your application.
