Your role

As our Accounting Lead (m/f/d), you will be the core owner and hands‑on expert for all operational accounting and financial reporting matters across our European entities. You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timely completion of all internal and external financial statements (HGB). Additionally, you will define, build, and lead our future Accounting team, drive efficiency, structure, and manage critical tools, approval processes, and payments.

Your responsibilities

• Actively drive the expansion and management of our accounting team, implement new processes and improve existing ones
• Manage our finance and budget software Finway, implement approval processes and monitor incoming and outgoing payments
• Internal accounting:
• Own the internal bookkeeping, documentation, and reporting process.
• Prepare timely monthly financial data and provide clear reports, calculations, and financial statistics to support internal stakeholders and management.
• Monitor and report on cash flow and support detailed liquidity forecasting.
• Responsible for the smooth operation and continued development of the finance software and internal payment approval flows.
• External accounting:
• Manage the entire operational financial accounting in accordance with HGB and IFRS.
• Serve as the primary contact for our external tax consultant and auditors, facilitating all audit processes.
• Ensure timely preparation and completion of monthly and annual financial statements, and necessary tax returns across all jurisdictions.

Your profile

• Completed studies with a focus on Accounting and Finance (e.g., Accounting, Taxes, Financial Management, Business Administration) or comparable qualifications.
• Several years of professional experience in core financial accounting, ideally in a high‑growth startup or multi‑entity environment.
• Excellent knowledge of operational accounting and the German Commercial Code (HGB), and proven experience applying IFRS for group reporting.
• Highly desirable
  • ▪ Knowledge of US GAAP due to planned US expansion.
  • ▪ Experience with SaaS‑like recurring revenue models.
  • ▪ Previous experience in people management, mentoring, or leading small teams.
  • ▪ Strong affinity for financial process implementation, optimization, and digital finance tools.
  • ▪ Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • ▪ Strong hands‑on mentality with the ability to analyze critical issues in detail and actively contribute to their solution.
  • ▪ Analytical thinking, sense of responsibility, high self‑motivation, commitment and a strong affinity for numbers.
  • ▪ Very good German and English skills are a must.

About Kipu Quantum

Kipu Quantum is a German startup focused on quantum computing, with offices in Karlsruhe and Berlin. We specialise in developing quantum algorithms tailored for specific applications and hardware. Our solutions help various industries – pharmaceuticals, chemicals, logistics, and finance – tackle complex problems using existing quantum hardware.
