Overview

Our client is a fast growing Quantum Computing scale up, who are looking for someone to spearhead their AI focused automation efforts.

As an Engineering Lead for AI & Automation, you’ll play a pivotal role in defining how the company leverages artificial intelligence and automation to drive innovation, efficiency, and smarter ways of working. You’ll build and lead a new engineering function from the ground up, combining proven automation technologies with cutting-edge AI and agent-based systems.

This is a rare opportunity to be a founding technical leader — designing systems that make a real impact across the organization while mentoring a talented team of engineers and AI specialists.

What You’ll Do

People Management
- Build, lead, and scale a high-performing engineering team focused on AI and automation.
- Define team structure, roles, and hiring strategy for long-term growth.
- Mentor team members, conduct regular 1:1s, and cultivate an inclusive, collaborative culture.
Drive Technical Excellence
- Identify, design, and deliver automation initiatives that enhance operational efficiency.
- Evaluate and integrate leading AI and automation technologies — from RPA and workflow orchestration to LLM-driven agent systems.
- Oversee code quality, documentation, and system scalability.
- Partner with teams across business, operations, and engineering to embed automation in key processes.
Own the Vision
- Set the technical direction for AI & automation initiatives.
- Balance strategic thinking with hands-on implementation.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and translate ideas into results.

What You Bring

5+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years in a leadership role.
Strong background in software development, process automation, and applied AI/ML.
Hands-on experience with automation tools (e.g., RPA, workflow orchestration) and modern AI frameworks (e.g., LLMs, agent systems).
Proficiency in Python and comfort delivering production-grade solutions.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and deliver results in agile environments.
Experience evaluating and integrating third-party automation or AI tools.
Fluent in English (German is a plus).
Valid work permit for Germany or the EU.
