Overview

Analyst – BCG Vantage, Market & Commodities Risk at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). This role is within BCG's Risk & Compliance (R&C) Practice Area on the Client Focus path, delivering value via individual expertise and/or institutionalized BCG Vantage assets.

What You'll Do

• Work in a growing global team, delivering value to clients via individual expertise and/or institutionalized BCG Vantage assets (products, tools, data, workshops, frameworks, surveys, domain-specific data, and related expertise).
• Act in a consulting capacity to case teams and manage assets, IP, tools and team processes.
• Own the Trading benchmark and ensure its accuracy and contribute to its enhancement.
• Contribute on cases and proposals by providing relevant analysis and insights to help case teams create a strong client impact.
• Occasionally travel to serve clients onsite during staffing assignments to understand client requirements and design/develop solutions.
• Support commercialization efforts for the topic/sector by contributing analysis and insights to proposals, client workshops and marketing materials.
• Support business development and go-to-market efforts of the Markets & Commodities business, contributing research and analysis to marketing efforts.
• Assist the R&C PA in helping clients manage key risks strategically, advance organizational resilience, and transform operating models with expertise in risk modelling, analytics and digitization.
• Engage in commodity risk management and trading risk client work across industries, including utilities, oil and gas, metals, mining, agribusiness, and other sectors; collaborate with merchants, banks, exchanges, data providers, and government agencies as needed.
• Develop and transfer knowledge to clients’ commodity trading and risk management organizations and assess trading performance through benchmarking tools.

What You'll Bring

• Required: Master of Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Financial Mathematics; Economics background considered if experience in Financial Risk.
• 1+ year of consulting experience or 2+ years of relevant industry work experience in Energy or Risk disciplines (Market Risk management or Market Analytics in Commodity Markets); sector experience in Energy and Banking.
• Direct experience in trading / market entry strategy, target operating models, trading risk frameworks and trading IT architecture.
• Fluency in English; optional: German, Italian, Spanish.
• Strong business acumen and problem-solving capabilities; strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid and demonstrable understanding of financial and commodity markets; basic understanding of financial risk management concepts (e.g., Value at Risk).
• STEM or economics background.
• Strong analytic ability to perform advanced analyses (e.g., Monte-Carlo simulations in Python with correlated signals), create valuations for flexible assets/options, and produce market reports.
• Ability to work in cross-functional teams and present insights to clients; agility to navigate ambiguity and fast-changing conditions.
