(Associate) ABAP Developer (f/m/d) - ABAP Gateway

What you’ll build

Join SAP's ABAP Gateway team within the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and help shape the future of data exchange in enterprise environments. ABAP Gateway enables effective and seamless communication and interactions between components and systems both within the SAP ecosystem as well as external systems, by providing built-in, on-stack support for standard communication protocols.

In your role as a framework-developer, you'll build and enhance the central OData (Open Data Protocol) provisioning layer on the ABAP platform that powers SAP's cloud APIs, driving innovation in enterprise connectivity and data exchange. You'll design and implement critical functionality for the OData v4 stack, directly influencing how millions of users interact with SAP S/4HANA and Fiori apps across diverse devices, environments and platforms. In addition, our OData Client Proxy allows developers to connect to external systems for data retrieval and transmission using OData RESTful APIs. You’ll also advance SAP's Agentic AI capabilities by implementing support for the open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) to enable AI-based applications, tools and workflows. Your contributions will have a direct impact on how data, processes, and AI interact, unlocking new opportunities for customers worldwide.

What you bring

• A good to excellent degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• Strong programming skills in ABAP or another object-oriented programming language
• Fluency in both German and English
• Abstract and analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills. You can understand complex concepts and present them clearly
• Familiarity with ABAP, OData, Agentic AI, MCP, or enterprise software development, is a plus
