Avionics Systems Engineer (m/f/d)

OHB's spacecraft observe the Earth, relay valuable data, study the solar system, and more. The avionics engineering department works at the core of each spacecraft: ensuring control, collecting science data, and recovering from on‑board failures automatically. We are seeking individuals with a sound technical background and motivation to join a dedicated team to define the Avionics Architecture, design and implement the data handling subsystem and its components, and develop and verify recovery mechanisms to keep the spacecraft safe and operational for years.

Your Tasks

Your tasks are mission-dependent and evolve throughout the life cycle of our spacecraft design and implementation process, from initial conception to launch campaign support. Depending on experience and preferences, tasks may include:

• Avionics Architecture: Define and develop the avionics architecture of the satellite, including sizing, trade-offs, interface budgets and hardware performance
• Manage the avionics subsystems during detailed design and testing as design authority. Scope may include data handling, telemetry and telecommand, payload data downlink, laser communications terminal and security subsystems
• Programmatic responsibility of the avionics subsystems and corresponding teams, with direct reporting to satellite project management
• Data interface management and control at physical level and across the protocol stack

• Data Handling Subsystem: Design and specification, evaluation of supplier proposals, data handling subsystem integration into the spacecraft, and unit- and subsystem verification
• Technical officer guiding procurements throughout lifecycle (concept, design, implementation, verification)
• Unit- and subsystem verification

• FDIR Systems Engineering: Design, specification, implementation and verification of the FDIR concept; coordination with subsystem engineers, software developers, systems engineering, operations and RAMS; serves as focal point to the customer for Satellite FDIR

Your Qualifications

• A degree in engineering with a major in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or compatible qualification
• Professional experience with satellite projects in phase B/C/D
• Self-managed, proactive and solution-oriented working style
• Ability to lead a team as well as work in a multi-cultural environment
• Fluency in spoken and written English
• German language skills are desired (can be improved through company-facilitated trainings)
