Job Title: Central Utility Plant (CUP) Manager

Department: Base Operations

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Central Utility Plant (CUP) Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our central utility plant. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all CUP systems, including steam boilers, chillers, and associated distribution networks. This is a critical leadership role that requires a strong technical background and proven managerial skills to maintain essential base services.

Responsibilities

• Plant Operations: Manage all aspects of CUP operations, including the generation and distribution of chilled water and steam. Ensure all equipment operates within specified parameters and that production meets base demand.
• Maintenance & Repair: Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all CUP equipment. Supervise technicians in performing routine inspections, diagnostics, and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Personnel Management: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of CUP operators and technicians. Schedule shifts, delegate tasks, and conduct performance evaluations.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure the plant operates in strict accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental, safety, and operational standards. Enforce a rigorous safety program and conduct regular safety briefings.
• Reporting & Budgeting: Monitor plant performance metrics, analyze energy consumption, and prepare detailed operational reports for management. Assist in the development and management of the departmental budget.
• Inventory Control: Oversee the procurement and inventory of all necessary parts, chemicals, and supplies for plant operations.

Desired Qualifications

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate's or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, power plant technology, or a related field is a significant plus.
• Experience: A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a central utility plant, power plant, or a similar industrial environment, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role.
• Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of boiler systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and electrical distribution. Strong understanding of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
• Leadership: Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. The ability to manage a team, make critical decisions under pressure, and drive continuous improvement.
• Certification: A valid driver's license is required. Relevant certifications (e.g., boiler operator's license, stationary engineer's license) are highly valued.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Requires the ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in various positions for extended periods.
• Must be able to work in diverse conditions, including exposure to high temperatures, loud noise, and confined spaces.
