On behalf of our client, a pan-European Private Equity firm, Thronsberg has been exclusively mandated to identify and appoint an experienced and commercially driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for one of its portfolio companies headquartered in Munich .

The company is a well-established, solidly financed, EBITDA positive and cash accretive mid-sized business generating approximately €100 million in annual revenues , with strong market positioning and clear plans for organic growth.

This is a pivotal role for an ambitious finance leader ready to step into a highly visible, board-facing position and actively shape the value creation journey of a private equity-backed company.

The Opportunity

The incoming CFO will act as a true business partner to the CEO and the PE sponsor, leading the financial steering of the business while also playing a key role in executing growth initiatives, improving operational performance, and professionalizing internal processes.

This is not a passive reporting function. Our client is seeking a CFO who thrives in high-expectation, hands‑on environments and brings both strategic clarity and operational discipline to the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and lead all finance-related functions: FP&A, controlling, accounting, treasury, tax, and legal.
• Implement best-in-class financial planning and reporting structures aligned with PE governance standards.
• Drive data‑driven decision‑making and financial transparency across the business.
• Prepare high‑quality board materials and performance reporting for PE investors.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and actively contribute to strategic initiatives.
• Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring scalability and talent development.
• Optimise liquidity position and capital structure planning in coordination with investors.

Candidate Profile

Professional Background

• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in finance leadership roles, with a proven track record as CFO or Director Finance in a mid‑market or growth‑oriented business.
• Prior exposure to private equity‑backed environments is strongly preferred .
• Experience in professionalizing finance functions and building scalable systems and processes.
• Strong understanding of HGB and/or IFRS reporting standards.
• Exposure to debt financing is beneficial.
• Commercially minded with a strategic yet hands‑on approach.
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence across all levels.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Resilient, execution‑oriented, and entrepreneurial mindset.
• Fluent in German and English .
