The DLR Institute of Software Technology sees software as a catalyst for research and innovation. The institute's staff, currently numbering around 200, contributes to advancements in aviation, space, energy, transportation, and security through state-of-the-art software solutions and innovative research. Our areas of competence include reliable and safety-critical software systems, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and quantum computing, human-system interaction and visualisation, software and systems engineering, as well as digital platforms and digital twins.

The Intelligent and Distributed Systems department researches methods to make complex technical processes and systems traceable, automatable, and interactively experimentally accessible. We work at the intersection of humans and machines (Artificial Intelligence) and develop innovative solutions for digital transformation. As a project manager and research associate, you actively shape the future in data-driven applications for aerospace and transportation and help make data explainable, comprehensible, and interactively usable for various user groups.

Your tasks

  • Leading projects for the development of data-driven, interactive applications with a focus on user-centered and comprehensible preparation
  • Conception and implementation of innovative interaction and visualization prototypes for web applications
  • Iterative design of interaction design with continuous involvement of users (e.g., astronauts, air traffic controllers, mission operators, mobility service operators, municipalities, travelers) in development and evaluation
  • Conducting application-oriented research in the field of human-computer interaction and human-AI interaction
  • Publication of scientific results in professional journals and presentation at conferences
  • Support in acquiring follow-up projects and developing new research concepts

Your profile

  • Completed university degree (Master's/University Diploma) in natural sciences (e.g., Computer Science, Media Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Computational Linguistics) or engineering sciences (e.g., Human Factors Engineering) or another degree relevant to the position (e.g., Psychology with focus on Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Design/Interaction Design/UX Design)
  • Experience in software development, knowledge in user-centered UI design, and conducting user studies
  • Proven experience in scientific project acquisition and third-party funding acquisition (DFG, EU programs, industry cooperations)
  • Expertise in Virtual and Augmented Reality
  • Proven research experience in human-computer interaction and human-centered computing
  • Experience in creating multimodal user interfaces
  • Excellent German language skills in speaking and writing
