Technical Project Brief: GPT Chat App (PWA) with Subscription Model




Project Objective

The goal is to develop a mobile-friendly chat application as a Progressive Web App (PWA) that gives users access to a GPT-based conversational assistant via a subscription model. The app will not be distributed via the App Store or Google Play, but will instead be installable directly from the browser and behave like a native app.

The chatbot will run on OpenAI’s GPT-4o API using a predefined system prompt. Users can manage multiple conversation threads. The technical setup must be fully manageable and editable by us using Make or n8n, with no ongoing developer dependency.




Core Features

Chat Interface (similar to ChatGPT)

• Clean, mobile-optimized UI
• Input field, loading feedback, and response display
• Multiple threads: users can create, name, and return to past conversations
• Each thread maintains temporary context memory (limited to OpenAI’s context window/token limit)
• No long-term memory at launch



OpenAI Integration

• Uses GPT-4o via the OpenAI API
• A fixed system prompt is attached to every request
• API key should be centrally configurable and replaceable



PWA Functionality

• App must be installable via browser on iOS (Safari) and Android (Chrome)
• Should open in full-screen mode with home screen icon
• Works like a native app without needing App Store listing
• Basic offline behavior: e.g. display welcome text or status message



Subscription System (Mandatory)

• App access requires an active monthly subscription
• Placeholder price: €9.99/month, billed monthly, cancellable at any time
• Integration via Stripe, Paddle, or similar service
• Webhooks manage access status (activation, cancellation, renewal)
• No chat access unless payment is active



Admin Control Without Coding

All workflows and key content editable via Make or n8n

Admin must be able to:

• Edit the main system prompt
• Change onboarding texts, welcome messages, and legal content
• Adjust pricing and subscription tiers
• View basic analytics: user count, active subscriptions, usage stats

Goal: full content and access control without needing developer input




Future-Ready for Expansion

While long-term memory is not part of the MVP, the architecture should allow for easy addition later

This will include per-user memory storage across threads (e.g. custom database per user)




Technical Requirements

• Frontend: Built as a PWA, responsive, mobile-first design
• Backend: Handles API requests, user session management, subscription logic
• Data Handling: Stores chat threads per user session (limited to GPT context, no persistence)
• Security & Compliance: GDPR-compliant, secure user data handling



Full Access & Ownership

• All connected tools (OpenAI, payment platform, Make/n8n, hosting) must be accessible via shared admin accounts
• No proprietary code or closed-source dependencies
• Documentation: All components, workflows, and APIs should be documented for easy handover and future development



Summary

This project is to build a fully functional, installable GPT-Chat PWA with a monthly subscription model. It must be mobile-first, require no App Store listing, and allow for full operational control through Make or n8n – with future flexibility to add persistent memory and other advanced features.
