Reporting to the EMEAI Field Service Manager, this Field Engineer is responsible for providing state-of-the-art onsite services (installation, preventive maintenance, break-fix/troubleshooting call-out, site survey, etc.) and technical support to customers on our range of Auto ID products, particularly Stationary Industrial Scanners and cameras.

Main Responsibilities

Install (mechanical, electrical), configure, and start-up (commissioning) Datalogic equipment at customer sites as per pre-defined specifications.
Maintain, re-stamp, adjust, and replace onsite Datalogic devices within existing customer systems.
Follow safety and security procedures on site.
Escalate complex technical issues to higher levels.
Issue timely and accurate service reports, including expenses.
Build and maintain respectful relationships with customers through professional attitude.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in electronics or a related technical field.
Languages: German (primary), English.
Preferred experience: 2-3 years in Field Service activities within automation or similar markets involving electrical and electronic devices.

Additional Skills & Information

Ability to read electrical & mechanical schematics.
Experience troubleshooting electromechanical and software issues.
Good understanding of computer networks (LAN, VLAN) and network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, FTP, SFTP, HTTPS).
Knowledge of serial communications (RS232 & RS485) and PLC communications (PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Ethernet/IP).
Experience with industrial automation devices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; MS Dynamics is a plus.
Willingness to travel frequently (mainly within Germany, up to 10% internationally).
Flexible, available for early, overnight, or weekend work as needed.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Resident in Germany; Cologne or Dusseldorf area preferred.
