Overview
Deputy Head of the Design Organisation – EASA Part 21J (m/f/d) at Boeing. Location options: Hamburg, Munich, Dublin, or Frimley. This role supports the Head of Design Organisation (HDO) in a DOA environment and acts as a primary point of contact in the HDO's absence.
Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Design Organisation (HDO) in the day-to-day management and maintenance of the Design Organisation Approval (DOA).
- Maintain regular, effective communication and coordination with the HDO, Chief of Airworthiness and all other departments of the DOA.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the HDO in their absence.
- Demonstrate and maintain the same skills, qualifications, and competencies as required for the HDO position.
- Report directly to the HDO and act on their behalf as delegated.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with all applicable EASA Part 21 Subpart J requirements, internal procedures, and the approved scope of work and privileges of the DOA.
- Support the HDO in developing, implementing, and continuously improving the Design Organisation’s policies, procedures, processes and guidance material.
- Participate in internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and investigations, ensuring timely closure of findings and implementation of corrective actions.
- Monitor, manage, and, where delegated, approve design changes, modifications, repairs, design data, compliance documents, and technical reports in accordance with approved procedures.
- Support the continued airworthiness and safety of our products.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, customers, and other stakeholders as required, representing the Design Organisation in technical and regulatory matters.
- Ensure that all design activities are properly documented, controlled and conducted in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Support the management and development of the design organisation’s staff, including training, competence assessment, and succession planning.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the Design Organisation.
- Drive technical excellence in accordance with Boeing values.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering.
- 10+ years' experience in related commercial aircraft design and certification fields, preferably in an EASA Part 21, Subpart J Design Organisation environment.
- Must have existing rights to work in either UK, Ireland, or Germany.
Additional attributes:
- A current or previous appointment as a nominated person at an EASA Part 21J DOA.
- Experience providing engineering & technical governance to design teams.
- A continuous improvement mindset.
- A current or previous appointment as a Compliance Verification Engineer (not essential).
- Extensive experience with EASA regulatory and airworthiness requirements including (E)TSO, CS-25, JAR-25 and FAR-25.
- Specialist in electrical, avionics, cabin safety or structures.
- Collaboration: experience in working effectively with colleagues and customers and in mentoring and coaching staff.
