Early Career Data Scientist/Analyst

Are you a data scientist with strong bioinformatics affinity? This is an outstanding opportunity for a neurogeneticist/data scientist to work in the Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program ( GP2 ). You will support data analysis and management for the Monogenic Data Analysis working group and have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with scientists within GP2 around the globe.

This role will focus on running and refining genomic analyses, data management and data visualization workflows.

  • Support cloud-based and high-performance computing analyses as well as bioinformatic workflows.
  • Support data sharing solutions for large genomics and clinical efforts in neurodegenerative disease research.
  • Execute rare-variant association analysis to identify novel genes associated with Parkinson’s disease etiology
  • Explore different types of genomic variation, such as structure variants, short tandem repeats and mitochondria variants, and their associations with Parkinson’s disease
  • Manage clinical and genomics data flow

Requirements

  • PhD in genomics/genetics/statistics or similar field
  • Solid experience in working in a Unix-like and high-performance computing (HPC) environment. Cloud computing competency is a plus.
  • Solid skills in R/Python/bash programming and version control/containerization
  • Solid experience with NGS data analyses
  • Familiar with developing and maintaining bioinformatic workflows (Snakemake, WDL or Nextflow)
  • Previous working experience in bioinformatics, data and computer science, statistics, or similar
  • Ability to conduct independent research
  • Strong communication skills that will enable effective participation in an interdisciplinary team of data analysts and biologists

This position will include the opportunities for frequent travels to partner institutes, growing your data science analytic skills and publishing research in collaboration within GP2.

The location for the work will be at the Institute of Neurogenetics in University of Luebeck.
