Embedded Hardware and Software Developer | Cologne | Up to €80k

A well-established industrial controls company is expanding its R&D team and is looking for a skilled Embedded Developer with a strong understanding of STM32 microcontrollers , ESP32-based systems , and hardware/software co-design . You’ll join a collaborative engineering team responsible for bringing custom industrial control solutions to life—from concept to series production.

Your Role:

• Develop innovative, customised embedded solutions based on STM32 and ESP32 platforms
• Take ownership of full product lifecycle : from concept, architecture, prototyping to series-ready design
• Design and implement printed circuit boards (PCBs) and embedded software for industrial control systems
• Work closely with customers who require tailor-made control solutions without in-house electronics capability
• Support and evolve existing products: bug fixes, change management, and end-of-life support
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and mechatronics teams for seamless integration
• Participate in compliance and certification processes (e.g., EMC, RED, DNV, CRA) and contribute to documentation for regulated industries
• Support onboarding and knowledge transfer from retiring senior colleagues (planned 1–2 days/week for 2 months)

What You Bring:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Mechatronics , or a related field
• Experience developing embedded systems (hardware and software) using STM32 and/or ESP32
• Comfortable designing both analog and digital circuits
• Understanding of Profinet, Ethernet , or similar industrial communication protocols
• Familiarity with PCB design and layout tools , measurement techniques, and compliance standards (e.g., EN 61010-1)
• Experience working with Linux-based systems is a plus
• Strong communication skills in German (B2+) and English
• Ability to work cross-functionally in a team where German is predominantly spoken
