Overview
EMEA Data Protection Officer (m/f/d) at Collins Aerospace – fully remote within Germany.
The Data Protection Officer & Regional Privacy Professional (the Position) is a full-time role reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Data Privacy. The Position holds a dual designation as: (1) statutory DPO for Collins Aerospace entities located in Germany, and (2) Regional Privacy Professional for entities located outside Germany (e.g., UK, France, Italy, Netherlands, etc.). The candidate must be located in Germany and fluent in German and English.
Responsibilities
At a high level, the Position will monitor compliance and data practices to ensure the business and its functions comply with GDPR requirements. The role includes staff training, privacy impact assessments, program implementation, internal audits, and related responsibilities. The Position will serve as a primary contact for supervisory authorities and individuals whose data is processed by the business.
- Work with business internal stakeholders in the review of projects and related data to ensure compliance with local data privacy laws
- Review and approve privacy impact assessments / data privacy impact assessments
- Serve as a primary point of contact and liaison for supervisory authorities on all data protection matters under the GDPR
- Serve as the primary point of contact for queries in the business
- Assist in the review of vendor contracts and consents needed to implement projects in partnership with the business and functions
- Participate in periodic meetings/committees in support of the business data privacy, compliance, security, worker relations programs
- Manage and execute data subject rights requests
- Monitor changes to local privacy laws and make recommendations when appropriate
- Develop and deliver privacy training to various business functions
- Develop strategies and initiatives to ensure engagement with key internal and external stakeholders
- Assist in preparing and executing data privacy audits
- Collaboration with various businesses and functions to raise employee awareness of data privacy and security issues
- Maintain records of processing activities, data security incident logs, privacy impact assessments, security breach responses, complaints, claims or notifications, and data subject rights requests
- Perform any other related work in support of and in furtherance of the company's policies and procedures
Education/Certification
- A university degree or equivalent experience and minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum of 7 years experience
- Preferable if the candidate holds a law degree from an accredited law school and is presently licensed to practice law in EU jurisdiction
- Preferable if the candidate holds at least one Data Privacy certification, such as IAPP CIPP/EU
Professional Experience
- A university degree or equivalent experience and minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum of 7 years’ experience
- Preferable if the candidate is a licensed attorney practicing within data privacy or related function
- Experience working in or with a large global organization and/or regulated industry
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong knowledge of EU data privacy and data protection regulation
- Strong familiarity with EU supervisory authorities, including Federal Commissioner of Data Protection and Freedom of Information, CNIL
- Fluent in German and English; fluency in other EU languages (e.g., French) considered a plus
- Sufficient knowledge of information technology and data management systems
- Strong interpersonal skills and able to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels
- Ability to work unsupervised, exercise leadership, and influence action and/or change
- Excellent written and presentation skills
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage time, prioritize work, and handle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to use independent judgment and strategic thinking in decision making
- Ability to collaborate with business leaders and manage across a varied range of businesses and functions in the execution of projects and programs
- Strong ability to apply a risk-based approach in meeting business objectives; develop a plan/strategy for business to execute in compliance with policies and applicable regulations
- Good judgment and professional discretion to handle confidential and sensitive information
- Extremely well-organized, detail oriented, and able to thrive in change, learning and innovation
- Ability to use technology to proactively track open actions and risks; knowledge of PC applications, including MS Office
