The Role
In this role, you'll advise HR and other business units across all German Tesla entities on a wide range of labor and employment matters, including works council issues. As part of Tesla’s EMEA Legal team, you'll also support the broader Employment team as needed, including matters beyond Germany.
You'll be highly organized, self-motivated, proactive, and entrepreneurial—thriving in a fast-growing, dynamic company where you can make a significant impact in one of Tesla's largest markets.
What You'll Do
- Manage and assess employment law risks, providing practical, creative solutions to business partners
- Offer day-to-day guidance on employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, pay practices, HR policies, performance management, terminations, employee investigations, and labor relations
- Negotiate, draft, review, and refine employment-related agreements
- Develop and improve frameworks for employment contracts, collaborating with internal teams (e.g., Recruiting, HR, and Payroll) to implement scalable policies and programs that balance legal risks with business needs; monitor emerging legislation and regulations to ensure compliance
- Provide strategic and tactical direction for ongoing and potential employment disputes and litigation
- Support Tesla's commitment to a fair, and compliant workplace by leading compliance projects and delivering training to managers and employees
- Partner closely with the HR team to address compliance, employee relations, internal investigations, audits, employment claims, and labor matters
- Track new legislation and regulations, providing proactive input to shape internal processes and strategies
What You'll Bring
- Excellent communication skills, with native-level German fluency and fluent English (written and spoken)
- 1st and 2nd state examination in law with above-average results or comparable degree
- At least 6 years of relevant experience at a law firm and/or in-house corporate environment in Germany
- Strong knowledge of works constitution law and experience working with works councils
- Team player with the ability to proactively identify issues, drive projects, and deliver pragmatic, creative legal and business solutions on time
- Comfortable working autonomously or collaboratively, prioritizing tasks effectively in a fast-paced, challenging environment
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a sense of ownership; quick and flexible learner who is intellectually curious, adaptable, and excited by ambiguity and dynamic change
- Skilled at making complex cost/benefit assessments, with strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels
