 Overview 
 Sompo has a unique opportunity for an EVP, Regional Head Commercial Lines  in our Continental Europe  (CE) team. We are looking for a Regional Head Commercial Lines with extensive global insurance knowledge, outstanding leadership and people management skills and a proven track record of at least 15–20 years of successful commercial P&C underwriting experience across multiple lines of business. 
 This strategic leadership role is responsible and accountable for defining and executing the commercial underwriting strategy across the region. The position oversees all underwriting activities across the various product lines, as well as business development functions, including distribution & client management, event management and risk control services. The future incumbent is expected to significantly contribute to the region's growth and profitability ambitions, utilizing a consistent and disciplined technical underwriting approach, innovation and operational excellence. 
 This position will directly report into the President of Continental Europe Insurance and play an essential role in the continued build out and expansion of SOMPO's commercial lines business across the Continental Europe region.

 What you’ll be doing 
  - Underwriting & Business Growth: Create an underwriting framework with appropriate regional guidelines, general underwriting appetite and governance, while promoting and strengthening local empowerment. 
  - Ensure strong risk selection discipline, identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance performance. 
  - Develop and implement commercial and technical underwriting strategy focused on robustness, consistency and comprehensiveness. 
  - Identify market opportunities and drive sustainable growth across the region, developing innovative insurance solutions for evolving customer and market needs. 
   
 Strategic Leadership & Stakeholder Management 
  - Break down long-term objectives into actionable plans, operationalized effectively and aligned with regional and global growth ambitions. 
  - Serve as a central figure to aggregate functions, aligning them with business needs and objectives, and act as a link between underwriting and governance stakeholders. 
  - Build and maintain strong relationships with intermediaries, brokers, and reinsurers to diversify portfolios and ensure consistent business support. 
   
 Operational Excellence & Collaboration 
  - Continuously evaluate and enhance underwriting workflows and systems to improve efficiency and productivity. 
  - Establish and monitor KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of strategic initiatives; regularly review progress and adjust to optimize performance. 
   
 People Leadership & Talent Development 
  - Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of business heads and business development professionals. 
  - Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and professional growth. 
   
 What You’ll Bring 
  - Experience and Industry Knowledge: 15+ years in senior management positions, preferably in a European role, with deep insurance knowledge, relevant qualifications and a track record of accomplishment. 
  - Strong understanding of market dynamics, distribution channels, and customer needs, with ability to identify and capitalize on opportunities. 
  - Proven track record of managing P&L responsibilities and optimizing profitability through disciplined risk selection and innovative market solutions. 
  - Demonstrated experience in delivering underwriting strategies to markets and translating high-level goals into actionable plans. 
   
 Strategic Leadership & Organizational Skills 
  - Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, integrity, and ability to build relationships and provide clear direction through change. 
  - Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to recognize opportunities and adapt to new trends with strong organizational skills. 
  - Demonstrated leadership experience in managing and developing high-performing teams. 
  - Ability to develop frameworks and processes in new or evolving organizational settings. 
   
 Additional 
  - Familiarity with treaty and facultative reinsurance markets and practices is desirable. 
  - Willingness to travel internationally as required in a global business environment. 
  - Language skills: English; other languages are a plus.
