The Role
The Finance Manager, Munich, is responsible for overseeing financial operations for the Munich office, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with both HGB and US GAAP standards. Acting as the main point of contact for external audit and tax providers, the role manages the month-end and year-end close processes, prepares management reports and forecasts, and drives process and reporting improvements in collaboration with regional and corporate finance teams. The Finance Manager provides financial insight to support decision-making, ensures SOX compliance, and contributes to building budgets and reforecasts to support the firm’s strategic and operational objectives across Central Europe.
Responsibilities
- Point of contact for Audit and Tax providers
- Posting of transactions for accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Reconciliation of accounts including bank reconciliations
- Preparation of accruals and provisions
- Preparation of management reports and analysis
- Assist in building annual budgets and reforecasts
- Ensure regular and consistent communication with key stakeholders.
- Work closely with finance and operational teams to drive process improvement, improved reporting and SOX compliance.
- Approvals for T&Cs, Expense Claims, Invoices and other transactional items.
- Oversee the month end, quarter end, year-end close process for Germany across all solution areas.
- Ensuring monthly variance analysis is performed to ensure accuracy of financials.
- Providing information and supporting documents to the Corporate Accounting team to assist with the close process.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in accounting is preferred.
- Currently pursuing or already holding a recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent).
- Minimum 2–3 years of finance experience, ideally within a professional services environment; experience from smaller firms is equally welcome
- Excellent English and German language skills.
- Strong technical competence in business planning, budgeting and forecasting.
- Experience in financial accounting and in-depth accounting knowledge in accounting according to HGB and US-GAAP
- Knowledge of the preparation and follow-up of the annual financial statements (audit according to HGB) as well as balance and account reconciliations
- Ideally, knowledge of the tax system to accompany the tax audit and advance VAT return
- Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must possess intellect, confidence and presence to operate effectively within the finance team.
