We are seeking an innovative, results-driven and consumer-oriented Formulation Engineer to develop and optimise silk protein formulations for consumer care applications such as cleaning, personal care and coatings, focusing on dishwashing and laundry care products.

Responsibilities

• Heading up development of future silk protein formulations for dishwashing and laundry care products
• Designing frame formulations and running proof of concept studies to show that enhanced silk protein properties result in consumer-perceived benefits in laundry and dish detergents
• Ensure smooth integration of silk protein formulations in production processes of formulators for dishwashing and laundry care products
• Investigate interactions between silk proteins and other ingredients in detergents to ensure compatibility and efficacy
• Use an innovative mindset to propose solutions addressing formulation challenges, including stability, processability, and end-use performance
• Collaborate with Application Engineering, Product Development and Biotech R&D to ensure scalability and alignment with product goals
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., REACH, EPA, EU Ecolabel) and assist customers in meeting sustainability and regulatory requirements
• Stay updated on trends in sustainable performance materials in the cleaning market

Your knowledge and expertise

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology or related fields
• 5+ years in development of dishwashing and laundry care products (experience with specialty ingredient suppliers is a plus)
• Knowledge of protein and polymer chemistry with a focus on protein formulation
• Knowledge of key ingredients used in consumer care formulations
• Hands-on mentality and teamwork: ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Biotech R&D and Application Engineering
• Problem-solving: strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in formulation challenges and ingredient compatibility
• Communication & consumer focus: ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers, Application Engineering, and sales teams
