Freelance Software Configuration Manager (DO-178C – Aviation / Defense) - Munich (Hybrid) - Start: Dec/Jan

Our client, a leading manufacturer in the aerospace and defense sector, urgently seeks an experienced Software Configuration Manager to take ownership of configuration and change processes across multiple software programs. In this role, you will design and ensure compliance with DO-178C‑compliant processes, lead release and change control activities, and guarantee full traceability from requirements management to source code.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, implement, and execute DO-178C‑compliant configuration management processes
• Lead Change Control Boards and oversee software release activities
• Maintain traceability matrices (Requirements / Design / Source Code / Test)
• Support audit and compliance activities in defense programs
• Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and project teams

Your Profile

• 8–10 years of experience in software configuration management
• At least 5 years in a dedicated configuration manager role (not a development role)
• Deep understanding of DO-178C and software lifecycle traceability
• Strong background in documentation, processes, and release governance
• Fluent English; German skills are an advantage
• Residence in Germany or a neighboring country (with willingness to travel to Munich 2–3 days per week)
• EU citizenship or residence in Europe for at least 5 years (due to security requirements)
• Start: December 2025 / January 2026
• Freelance engagement
