Full Professor of Computer Science (Programming Systems and Software Engineering)

Overview

Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a Full Professor of Computer Science (Programming Systems and Software Engineering) (salary group W3) at the Department of Computer Science. This is a full-time and permanent position planned to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

Profile and Areas

We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in programming systems and software engineering, with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. We particularly expect outstanding research in at least one of the following areas:

• Design, implementation, and performance optimization of programming systems
• Software engineering and programming models for novel system environments
• Language, development, and system support for secure and efficient systems
• Program analysis and verification
• Verified compilation, program transformation, and program synthesis
• Artificial intelligence in software engineering and programming systems
• Sustainability of software systems

Teaching and Duties

Teaching is expected to complement courses currently offered in the field of programming systems and software engineering, both for computer science and related degree programs (such as data science and information systems). The professor is expected to deliver foundational courses in the bachelor’s program in computer science. The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching. They are required to have a university degree and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications). These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor). The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred.
