Project Overview
Johann Gottlieb Yohr went by the name of Gottlieb. When he immigrated to American his last name was changed to Yohr. This is my surname. Gottlieb was my GGG grandfather. I have some information about Gottlieb but want to verify with documentation he and his children’s names, birth dates, death dates, marriages, spouse names and dates. I then want to see how many generations I can go back to finding Gottlieb’s ancestors. I only want direct parents and sibling information. I also would like any other information such as land records, church records, ect. Pictures would be great, but I know photography was not very prevalent during those times. I also would like residence, land records, of Gottlieb’s time in America.


Known Information
From what I know, Gottlieb lived in Jankendorf Posen where he married Wilhelmine Jahns Janke. They had 8-9 children. Wilhelmine died in 1857. I do not know how. Gottlieb then married Rosine (Rosa) Kuhn. I think they then moved somewhere in Poland not far from Jankendorf. They had two children that I know of. They then immigrated to America on June 7, 1882, from Brakwitz (maybe Hamburg) on the ship SS Westphalia arriving on June 20, 1882 in New York harbor with a daughter and a grandson. The surviving children from Gottlieb’s first marriage immigrated to America earlier.

Enclosed or attached is a spreadsheet of the people listing dates, names, and locations of what I know. If it is shaded in green, I have supporting documentation. All that is not shaded I would like supporting documentation.


Action Items
• Ancestry Research: Find Gottlieb’s parents /siblings, grandparents/siblings, as far back as you can go. Provide supporting documentation.


• Record Search: Find any land records, church records, cemetery records, and supporting residency and occupations.


• Frederich Wilhelm “William” Johr (Yohr) Residency: Find residency documentation for Frederich Wilhelm “William” Johr (Yohr) for his time in Wisconsin. I show that he first located in Waushara County Wisconsin. Then moved to a farm in Lind Wisconsin.


• Edward Yohr Land Records: Find land records for Edward Yohr (William’s son). Edward had a farm in Manawa Wisconsin in the early 1900’s.


• 237 Walnut Street, Manawa, WI Property Records: Find land or property records for 237 Walnut Street, Manawa, WI 54949. The Yohr family has owned this property for many years.
