Germany – PhD in Cancer Biology at Universitätsklinikum Ulm
Stellenbeschreibung:
    University: Universitätsklinikum Ulm
    Country: Germany
    Deadline: 2025-08-31
Fields: Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Cancer Biology, Translational Medicine, Pediatric Hematology
Are you driven by the desire to make a real impact in pediatric cancer research and to help improve the lives of young patients? If you are eager to advance your academic and scientific career in a field with significant societal relevance, the PhD position at Universitätsklinikum Ulm could be the perfect opportunity for you.
At Universitätsklinikum Ulm, you will join a vibrant academic community located in the heart of Germany. Ulm is renowned for its scientific innovation, rich history, and high quality of life. The university hospital is a leading center for translational research and clinical excellence, providing students and researchers with access to state-of-the-art facilities, interdisciplinary collaborations, and a stimulating international environment. Germany is widely recognized for its strong support of higher education and research, offering a welcoming atmosphere for international scholars and an excellent standard of living.
Opening a new chapter in pediatric cancer research, the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Universitätsklinikum Ulm is offering a fully funded PhD position in the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. The research project is centered on pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common childhood cancer, and aims to unravel the mechanisms underlying central nervous system (CNS) involvement in leukemia. By focusing on both basic and translational aspects, the project aspires to bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical applications, ultimately improving outcomes for children affected by this disease.
The significance of this research cannot be overstated. Despite advances in treatment, CNS involvement in pediatric ALL remains a major clinical challenge, often leading to relapse and treatment complications. Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms driving CNS leukemia is critical for developing more effective therapies and for reducing the long-term side effects of current treatments. This PhD project, therefore, addresses a pressing need in pediatric oncology and offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful advances in the field.
