    Strongly supported by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe framework, the METAMIC project at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences offers a unique opportunity to advance microbiome science through integrated metaproteomics research. The program directly addresses One Health challenges by investigating microbial mechanisms, microbiome dynamics across ecosystems, and translational applications in clinical and biotech fields. This research is at the forefront of efforts to understand how microbial communities influence human, animal, and environmental health.     Responsibilities
    The METAMIC doctoral network is designed to provide Doctoral Candidates (DCs) with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary training environment. As a PhD student, you will be responsible for sampling microbiomes from both engineered and natural habitats, conducting metaproteomic analyses to identify effectors shaping these communities, and developing tailored workflows for translational research. The project includes several international research stays, such as:
    – Sampling and analyzing phage impacts on constructed microbial communities at Sheffield University (UK)
    – Two months of training in natural habitat sampling at Centro de Edafologia y Biologia Aplicada del Segura (Murcia, Spain)
    – Two months at the Center of Excellence for Metaproteomics at the University of Vienna (Austria) for method exchange

    Candidate Profile
    The Ideal Candidate For This PhD Position Will Have
    – A Master’s or Diploma (University) degree in microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a closely related field
    – Experience in (meta-)proteomics, (meta-)genomics, and handling environmental samples
    – Proficiency in scientific English (written and spoken)
    – A strong motivation for interdisciplinary research and international collaboration
    Additionally, Applicants Must Meet The Following Eligibility Criteria
    – Must hold a relevant master’s degree or equivalent by the PhD start date
    – Must not already possess a doctoral degree (PhD)
    – Must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to recruitment (in accordance with Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions mobility rules)
    – For qualifications obtained outside Germany, an official proof of equivalence with a German qualification is required (see for details)
