Head of Hardware Engineering

Filics München

Stellenbeschreibung:

Head of Hardware Engineering at Filics

Filics’ mission is to reinvent intralogistics by creating autonomous mobile robots that fundamentally change how material moves. Our double‑runner system makes Filics the first and only AMR able to drive through load carriers such as Euro pallets, breaking forklift logic and setting a new standard for efficiency. We are a small, focused team committed to solving hard problems with engineering excellence. All team members are expected to be hands‑on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. Work ethic and strong prioritization skills are important. All team members are expected to have strong communication skills and to share knowledge concisely and accurately.

OUR CHALLENGE

Filics is reinventing intralogistics with a unique modular robot system that combines mechanics, electronics, and advanced sensing into a mobile platform. The product has proven itself in the field and set a new standard by breaking forklift logic. The next phase is to transform this system into true industrial‑grade hardware.

The robot is, at its core, a moving sensing system. Its architecture integrates mechanical precision, electronic control, and advanced perception. Each of these layers must now be pushed further: mechanics that can handle demanding tasks like truck loading, electronics that support higher performance and reliability, and sensors that unlock new levels of autonomy. While the foundation is strong, every subsystem must be raised to industrial standards of robustness and reliability.

The challenge is twofold: first, to harden the existing system into a product customers can trust for mission‑critical operations; second, to expand its capabilities so that Filics stays ahead of the market. Industrialization and innovation have to progress hand in hand.

The outcome of this phase will determine whether Filics hardware remains a proven innovation or becomes the benchmark for excellence in robotics engineering.

YOUR ROLE

As Head of Hardware Engineering you own the hardware roadmap of Filics. You decide what we build next in mechanics and electronics, and how these systems evolve to make our robot both more robust and more capable. You lead mechanical and electrical engineering and ensure that every development step strengthens the product and extends its capabilities.

Your responsibility is twofold. First, to bring the existing system to industrial standards of reliability, robustness, and safety. Second, to expand its functionality by driving innovation projects such as truck loading, advanced electronics, and new sensing systems that unlock higher levels of autonomy.

Equally important is building the organization. You will structure and scale functional teams in mechanics and electronics, create clear ownership, and establish processes that enable high performance and autonomy. You are not only responsible for hardware development, but also for creating the conditions in which engineering excellence becomes repeatable.

Through your leadership, Filics hardware will not only meet industrial expectations but also continue to expand the frontier of what autonomous intralogistics can achieve.

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, robotics, mechatronics) with 3–5 years of industry experience, or Master’s degree with 5–7 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven track record of leading hardware development for complex products (e.g., robotics, automotive, aerospace, or other mechatronic systems), including responsibility for roadmaps and system integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high‑performing mechanical and electrical engineering teams, including establishing functional structures and clear ownership.
  • Strong problem‑solving, organizational, and project management skills, with a focus on quality and execution.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to align teams and drive clarity across disciplines.
