Head of Risk – Financial Institution (Munich)

I am currently seeking a seasoned Head of Risk to lead and strengthen the Risk Management function in line with Solvency II, BaFin, and group-wide standards. This senior role offers exposure across the European business and group-level initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and enhance the risk framework, ensuring alignment with Solvency II, BaFin.
• Hold the Risk Management regulatory function for the company and provide oversight across all European branches.
• Partner with the Executive team (CEO, CFO, CUO, Chief Actuary, Compliance) to embed a strong risk culture and governance framework.
• Lead the ORSA process, including stress, scenario, and reverse stress testing, and contribute to capital management planning.
• Maintain risk registers and reporting processes, ensuring consistent identification, assessment, and monitoring of key risks.

Key Requirements

• Fluent in German and English (written and spoken); French a plus.
• Proven experience in a regulated risk function within the (re)insurance industry, meeting BaFin criteria.
• Strong knowledge of Solvency II Pillar 2, risk governance, and regulatory expectations.
• Excellent report writing, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to operate independently and deliver under pressure.
