Interim Site Project Manager (Deconstruction & H&S Support)

We are seeking an experienced interim Site Project Manager to support the deconstruction and closure of an industrial manufacturing facility in Germany. This role acts as the client’s on‑site representative, ensuring safe and compliant execution of deconstruction activities, effective coordination among stakeholders, and adherence to German Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards.

The position does not own overall project delivery but provides on‑the‑ground leadership, oversight, and communication between the client, contractors, and the project management team.

Key Responsibilities

Site Coordination & Project Support

• Serve as the client’s on‑site contact for the deconstruction and remediation project.
• Support the project manager and central team by monitoring daily site activities, progress, and compliance.
• Coordinate and facilitate communication between contractors, engineers, H&S personnel, and regulatory authorities.
• Ensure work is performed according to the project plan, schedule, and safety standards.
• Support site documentation, reporting, and progress updates to the central project team.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Oversight

• Act as on‑site H&S representative, promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with German occupational safety laws (ArbSchG, BaustellV).
• Support or liaise with the SiGeKo (Safety and Health Coordinator) where applicable.
• Verify that risk assessments, method statements, and permits are current and followed by all contractors.
• Monitor hazardous material handling and waste management (asbestos, contaminated soils, etc.) in line with TRGS and KrWG requirements.
• Conduct site safety inspections, attend toolbox talks, and ensure incident reporting procedures are in place.

Technical & Environmental Support

• Monitor and support deconstruction and dismantling activities, ensuring safe sequencing and proper waste segregation.
• Ensure that environmental protection measures are implemented (dust suppression, runoff control, waste tracking).
• Review contractor documentation for completeness and compliance with environmental and quality standards.

Stakeholder & Regulatory Interface

• Represent the client during regulatory or third‑party inspections (e.g., BG Bau, Umweltamt).
• Maintain good working relationships with local authorities, contractors, and consultants.
• Support communication and reporting to corporate EHS and project management teams.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree or technical qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Proven experience in industrial deconstruction, demolition, or site remediation projects.
• Strong understanding of German H&S regulations, especially Baustellenverordnung, ArbSchG, GefStoffV, and TRGS standards.
• Fluent German (C1) and English (B2) for communication with local contractors and international teams.
• Experience working with multinational clients in brownfield or plant closure projects.
• Knowledge of environmental permitting and waste management processes in Germany.
• Previous experience in interim or contract‑based site leadership roles.
