PhD Position in Algebraic Geometry

The Emmy Noether Junior Research Group “Smoothings from log resolutions and applications” at the Institute of Algebraic Geometry welcomes applications for the following position starting between April 1, 2026 and October 1, 2026: PhD Position in Algebraic Geometry (salary scale 13 TV-L, 75 %)

The position is initially for a duration of 36 months.

Your role

A key goal of the project will be the investigation of tropical correspondence theorems for curve counts, using toric degenerations of Fano varieties arising from zero-mutable Laurent polynomials. Prior experience in any of these areas as well as an interest in combinatorial and computational methods is welcome, but not required.

Candidates with a Master’s degree in Mathematics and with a strong background in Algebraic Geometry.
