The Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics at the TUM School of Management and the TUM School of Life Sciences offers a position as Ph.D. Student / Junior Researcher in Microeconomics / Applied Economics

The initial appointment will be 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary is in accordance with the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (starting at TV-L E13 2/3).

Responsibilities

• The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge empirical research in at least one of the following areas: natural resources and environment; climate change and policy; digitalisation, AI and smart technologies in the bioeconomy; agricultural, food and environmental policy impact analysis; and/or production efficiency and food markets.
• Work towards an internationally competitive PhD degree and internationally peer-reviewed publications.
• Significant involvement in selected nationally and internationally funded projects, such as various EU Horizon projects (e.g., AGRO-WELL, URSOILL, WATERGRID, SCALARE) or nationally funded projects.
• Receive high-quality supervision from the chair’s senior academic staff and may be involved in teaching at undergraduate/graduate levels, as well as funding acquisition and (global) outreach, if desired.
• Engagement in international networking and collaborations is encouraged (e.g., South America, Asia or Africa). The PhD process will be accompanied by integration into TUM’s School of Life Sciences or School of Management and participation in related Graduate School training programs.

Qualifications

• An excellent or very good university degree in economics, business studies, agricultural sciences with a focus in economics, or related disciplines.
• Strong analytical and methodological skills with a focus on quantitative data analysis (e.g., econometrics, statistics, machine learning).
• High motivation and the ability to work independently with a strong team orientation.
• Excellent spoken and written English and the will to acquire a certain working language of German.
