Job Description
Power System Engineer will perform steady‑state simulations like load flow, short circuit and power quality studies (harmonic analysis and flicker analysis), as well as RMS and EMT simulations (FRT, FSM, voltage control, energisation, etc.) for PV, BESS and wind power plants. The role also ensures project compliance to local grid requirements.
Key Tasks
- Perform steady‑state simulations for PV, BESS, and wind power plants.
- Analyse protection coordination studies for the power plants.
- Participate in grid code compliance assessments, model validations, and certification processes with utilities, consultants or certification bodies.
- Provide technical input during project development, ensuring that grid connection factors are fully considered.
- Examine third‑party studies, identify key issues, and suggest alternative solutions.
- Carry out feasibility studies for grid connections to assess available capacity and identify the most cost‑effective connection solutions.
- Supervise and review conceptual, schematic and detailed design of the HV grid connection, including calculations, technical specifications, and drawings.
- Identify trends in grid requirements per country of operation and ensure compliance at lowest cost.
- Coordinate with senior engineers to ensure project compliance.
- Discuss with local project developers per project.
- Ensure all project compliance before handing over to an EPC.
Qualifications
- Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related discipline with focus on power system dynamics, control or simulation.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience in grid compliance studies and power systems.
- Strong understanding of international grid codes and TSO requirements (e.g., ENTSO‑E, UK guidelines).
- Experience participating in grid code compliance assessments, model validations, and certification processes.
- Knowledge of PV, BESS and Wind plant design, SLD, power transmission, system loss calculations, general electrical requirements of large‑scale power plants.
- In‑depth knowledge of power cables, transmission lines, transformers, switchgear, relays, earthing and protection systems.
- Experience with tools such as PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink. Knowledge of ATP/EMTP, CYMCAP are an advantage.
- Proficiency in developing user‑defined models for power system analysis using programming languages such as Python, Fortran, DSL or similar.
- English required, other European languages appreciated.
