The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences invites applications for a
Professorship (W2) (6 years/tenure track)of Differential Psychology in School Contexts
commencing as soon as possible.
We are seeking a candidate (f/m/d) with expertise in the field of differential and personality psychology in school-related contexts (e.g., analysis and assessment of inter- and intra-individual differences among students or teachers, personalized interventions in educational settings, personality development in school children or students, individual differences in teacher education, personality-related processes and mechanisms in educational trajectories). Experience and competencies in applying advanced methodological and statistical approaches and technologies (e.g., experience sampling, virtual/mixed/extended reality, machine learning, artificial intelligence) are desirable.
The professorship, integrated into the Chair of Personality and Educational Psychology, is expected to represent school psychology both within the university and to the broader academic and professional community. Further, it should contribute to strengthening the Department’s research focus on “Personalized Diagnostics and Interventions”. An interest in contributing to the cross-faculty research initiative SFB/TRR “Simulation-based learning in higher education: Advancing research on process diagnostics and personalized interventions (SHARP)” ( ) is desirable.
Teaching responsibilities primarily include courses in teacher training programs, particularly in school psychology, but also in the B.Sc. Psychology program and potentially in other master’s programs in psychology. A willingness to contribute pedagogical-psychological content to courses in school psychology is expected. The successful candidate will also be responsible for grading state examinations (Staatsexamina; written in German language) in educational psychology and school psychology.
Applicants are expected to have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications in international journals and teaching experience in school and/or educational psychology. Candidates should also explain how they have pursued and intend to pursue transparent and reproducible research (e.g., through open data, open materials, preregistrations). In addition, experience in acquiring, managing, and/or coordinating third-party funded research projects is desirable. Candidates are further expected to outline how they intend to contribute to the development of school psychology at LMU within the Bavarian system (LPO I; § 110).
LMU Munich seeks to appoint a highly qualified junior academic to this professorship and, therefore, especially encourages early-career scholars to apply. Prerequisites for this position are a university degree and a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification. With an excellent record in research and teaching to date, prospective candidates will have demonstrated the potential for an outstanding academic career.
The initial appointment will be for six years. After a minimum of three years, it can be converted into a permanent position pending a positive evaluation of the candidate’s performance in research and teaching as well as his or her personal aptitude and if all legal conditions are met.
