What to Expect

At Tesla Engineering Germany in Freiburg, we’re building the future of sustainable energy by developing innovative power electronics for energy storage and vehicle charging systems. Join our team to collaborate across different engineering areas, solve meaningful challenges creatively and transfer concepts from initial design, through prototyping and testing into real‑world solutions. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of innovation and regulation, verifying product compliance with international standards while representing Tesla in bodies like IEC and CENELEC. By proactively influencing technical regulations and industry guidelines, you’ll directly shape the future of Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and Energy products across the EMEA region.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and lead the long‑term regulatory and standards strategy for Energy products
  • Represent the company in key standards development organizations (e.g., IEC, CENELEC) and industry associations to actively shape future technical regulations
  • Lead and manage global certification projects for Tesla’s Energy products, including battery storage and grid‑interface systems
  • Act as the subject matter expert, interpreting and applying international standards to guide product design and ensure compliance from the earliest stages
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison for certification bodies (e.g., TUV, UL, Intertek), managing the relationship, negotiating test scopes, and resolving technical challenges
  • Author and publish technical white papers and position statements to establish industry thought leadership and inform internal strategy
  • Collaborate with design engineers to find creative solutions to compliance issues related to product safety, EMC, and grid code requirements

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related technical field, with significant experience in a product compliance or certification engineering role
  • Deep knowledge of Energy safety standards and regulations, such as IEC 62619, IEC 62109 series, IEC 62933 series, UL 9540, UL 1741, and UL 1973
  • Expert‑level knowledge of European grid codes, including EU RfG, EN 50549 series, German (VDE‑AR‑N 4105/4110/4120), UK (G98/99/100), Italian (CEI‑021), Spanish (UNE  /2), Belgian (C10/11), and others
  • Hands‑on experience with laboratory test equipment such as grid simulators, power analyzers, and load banks for compliance validation
  • Previous involvement in shaping industry standards (e.g., with IEC, CENELEC, ETSI), with the ability to represent company interests and the willingness to travel to test labs and events across EMEA and the US as needed
  • Proven experience working, negotiating, and interfacing with global certification bodies (e.g., UL, TUV, DEKRA, NMi, Intertek)
  • Strong understanding of EMC standards (e.g., IEC 61000 series, FCC Part 15)
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for effectively representing Tesla’s interests with external agencies and internal engineering teams
