Research Associate (m/f/d) – Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in at the Institute of Industrialization of Smart Materials

Join the Cluster of Excellence “BlueMat: Water-Driven Materials” at the Hamburg University of Technology. Contribute to the next generation of sustainable, nature-inspired materials by designing and manufacturing artificial trees with tunable water transpiration-driven hydraulic flow.

Responsibilities

• Design, manufacture, and analyze artificial trees using additive manufacturing and electrochemical post-processing.
• Perform metallography and analyze porous Si-structures and SiO structures.
• Investigate hydraulic flow properties and imbibition behavior.
• Collaborate closely with BlueMat partners in imaging, modeling, and fluid transport to integrate findings into the broader cluster program.
• Publish findings and engage with the research community and the public.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in materials science, production technologies, or a related field.
• Strong background in materials science of metals, semiconductors, and/or oxides.
• Experience in additive manufacturing technologies, preferably for metals.
• Very good English required (at least B2/C1 level); German is not mandatory.
• Curiosity, teamwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Desired Knowledge

• Experience with SEM, EDX, and familiar with electrochemical processes and hydraulic flow.
