With more than 80 employees, the Chair for Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage Systems and the Institute for Power Generation and Storage Systems are among the largest university research institutions for battery storage systems in Europe. We are continuously looking for motivated and highly qualified support to advance the energy transition. We deal with all issues arising from the planning and operation of battery storage systems, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. These range from system design and the development of operating strategies to profitability calculations and policy advice on all the latest battery-related topics. We operate our own fleet of electric vehicles, support the power grid with a large-scale battery storage system, plan the decarbonisation of industrial operations or advise political ministries on strategic decisions that affect our society.

Your must-haves:
What would be nice to have:
Background of the task:
In order to drive forward the decarbonisation of industrial sites, fossil fuels are being avoided. To this end, vehicles at industrial sites are being converted to battery-electric operation and stationary storage systems are being used to optimize self-consumption. Life cycle assessments (LCA) are being carried out as part of various projects on stationary and mobile battery storage systems to evaluate the reduction of CO2 emissions. An LCA describes the life cycle assessment of a product in the production, operation and recycling phases. In our projects, LCAs are conducted, for example, to compare the life cycle assessment of electric vehicles with conventional combustion engines. In addition, different battery technologies are analysed in terms of their environmental impact. Methodologies are created for this in order to apply these LCA´s consistently. The production, operation and recycling processes are modelled using LCA tools, e.g. openLCA and brightway.
