Overview

For Airbus Defence & Space in Taufkirchen, we are looking for a SATCOMBw Overarching Systems Engineer - Satellite Communication Systems (d/f/m) . The department develops satellite communication systems for civil and military customers and serves as the overall engineering authority for SATCOMBw.

As an Overarching Systems Engineer, you will work on the concept, design, development and technical requirements of system upgrades and modifications of the SATCOMBw Satellite Communication System and related program upgrades for the German armed forces. You will align different system modifications and upgrades of the SATCOMBw Systemverbund and collaborate with the Chief Engineers and Lead Systems Engineers of major system upgrades of both space and ground/user infrastructure. You will be responsible for the overall system performance including the user segment and for supervising the acceptance of major system upgrades to ensure they meet overall system requirements.

During routine operations, you will help maintain system performance over the lifetime and propose improvements and extensions to keep the system state-of-the-art. You will be involved in system anomaly boards and act as the technical authority to support resolution of issues.

Your tasks and responsibilities

• Requirements engineering with DOORS for satellite communication systems, space and ground segments, and lower levels
• Conduct and follow-up conceptual design activities in lead systems engineering for SATCOM, including requirements, interfaces, user data and management data flow within the ground segment, TM/TC interfaces and customer interfaces
• Establish requirements for satellite systems, space and ground segments and their items (e.g., digital payloads, ground stations, mission operation center, spacecraft control center, payload control center, networks, IT infrastructure, data centers)
• Analyze end-to-end communications performance including the user segment for digital and transparent payloads
• Lead system trade-offs and define the overall system architecture
• Lead the elaboration of verification and validation concepts at the system level and support relevant tests
• Collaborate on operations concepts and operational requirements for space and ground segments with dedicated systems engineers
• Provide technical support to project managers on planning, contractual changes and risk & opportunities identification

Desired skills and qualifications

• Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electronics or related Engineering discipline
• Excellent knowledge of military satellite communication systems, preferably with heritage on SATCOMBw
• Profound knowledge of satellite communications engineering, including technical interfaces, data flow (user and management data) and TM/TC engineering (secure and unsecured) and user traffic
• Strong knowledge of RF link budgets and antenna design
• Experience with software-based systems, networks and IT infrastructure
• Profound experience in modern Digital Payload, Ground Station, Spacecraft Control Center and Payload Control Center engineering
• Experience in design, development, integration, verification, operations of Satellite Communications Systems and related processes
• Experience in leading a multinational engineering team
• Business fluency in English and German (minimum C2 for both)
