We are on the lookout for a Senior Data Scientist to join the Consumer, Global Search tribe on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences. In our Global Search tribe, we provide cutting-edge Search services (Query understanding, Retrieval, Ranking) across all our platforms, impacting millions of customers worldwide. Our search functionality spans more than 60 countries and 35 languages, facilitating over 80 million searches daily across four continents. In this role you will:

Responsibilities

• Develop and Optimize Search Algorithms: research, develop, and optimize advanced machine learning algorithms to improve our search experience, including query understanding, semantic search, spell correction, ranking, LLM-based ontologies, and evaluating search results at scale to provide users with the most relevant and tailored search experiences.
• Collaborate Across Teams: work with product managers, analysts, backend engineers, and data engineers to drive end-to-end solutions and translate business challenges into impactful data science projects that meet our OKRs.
• Extract Actionable Insights: analyze large, complex datasets to uncover insights into search relevance challenges and communicate findings to stakeholders to influence strategy and product direction across brands and platforms.
• Experiment and Lead Innovation: identify and apply the best ML and statistical methods, own the data science lifecycle from ideation to production, ensure scalability, and leverage emerging trends in Search and AI to accelerate innovation and contribute to the research roadmap.
• Master Ambiguity: take a leading role in tackling ambiguous business problems and translate challenges into well-defined data science roadmaps with clear objectives to deliver tangible results.

Qualifications

• Experience: Master’s degree (or Bachelor’s with 6+ years of work experience) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or similar. 4+ years of experience as a data scientist with at least 2+ years in the Search Domain (Query understanding, retrieval, ranking & personalization, or related fields).
• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in SQL and Python and its ML ecosystem, experience with Cloud environments (e.g., GCP or AWS), best practices in software engineering with Python, deploying and running ML models in production, and deep understanding of MLOps tools (e.g., MLFlow and Metaflow) and large-scale data pipelines.
• Search ML Knowledge: Strong understanding and hands-on experience with ML/AI solutions in search (e.g., learning-to-rank, semantic search, NER, LLMs), plus broad knowledge of ML and statistical methods including Classical ML and Deep Learning. Ability to discern suitable approaches for different problems and a quick, curious learner.
• Problem-Solving & Agility: Comfort with ambiguity and ability to define clear data science problems and scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative Spirit: Experience working in global, cross-functional teams with strong communication skills to influence stakeholders at all levels, and willingness to mentor junior scientists.
