(Senior) Electronics Failure Analysis Engineer, Energy (m/f/d)

Job Overview

The Failure Analysis Team’s mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla’s Energy Products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams.

Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of Energy Product systems like Powerwall, Megapack, and Supercharger. This is an individual contributor role with great internal visibility that requires extensive hands-on work focused on failure analysis and root cause activities.

Responsibilities

• Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on electromechanical components from Tesla’s Energy Products
• Investigate system assemblies, modules, components to identify root cause of failure in Tesla’s Energy products
• Design and conduct fault replication tests experiments on power converters and low voltage PCBA's including board rework and FW/HW testing
• Collaborate with appropriate engineers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to drive resolution to the identified failure causes
• Provide inputs to design and manufacturing teams to improve design and production yield
• Support design reviews and DFMEAs based on prior failure experience

Requirements

• BS/MS Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience
• Strong demonstrable experience in Power Electronics/power converter circuits for energy storage/automotive applications
• Electrical/Electronic design experience a strong plus
• Strong demonstrable hands-on experience with electrical test equipment: Power Supplies, Multimeter, Oscilloscopes, and other common equipment
• Strong & demonstratable focus on adhering to Lab safety practices
• Extremely proficient at reading schematics and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn the different failure analysis techniques including 2D and 3D X-Ray, Cross Sectioning, FTIR, DSC, SEM, and FLIR Thermography
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
