Principle Duties and Essential Functions

• Develop innovative solutions in coherent optical transmission, optical networks, and fiber sensing
• Lead and participate in research and advanced development projects
• Present Adtran’s technical work at conferences and events
• Collaborate with external partners to acquire publicly funded projects
• Work with customers and the research community on funded projects
• Conduct laboratory experiments and field trials
• Evaluate new technologies for optical systems and fiber sensing for potential product development

Additional Responsibilities

• Advise R&D and PLM teams on new technologies
• Support transfer of research results into product development
• Contribute to intellectual property rights on innovative technologies
• Discuss technology trends with customers and vendors

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• PhD or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field
• 3-5 years of optical telecommunication R&D experience
• Deep understanding of fiber optics, optical networks, and digital communications
• Hands-on experience with optical components, RF equipment, modulation, coding, digital signal processing, modeling, prototype development, and fiber sensing
• Strong programming skills
• Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
• Fluent in English
• Experience with collaborative research projects and international travel preferred
