The Purpose: As the Senior Engineering Manager in the Boarding Domain, you will own the end-to-end technical strategy, architecture, and execution for PPRO’s customer onboarding portfolio. You will drive engineering excellence to ensure systems are scalable, secure, and optimised for seamless customer onboarding. You will collaborate with Product, Compliance, and Commercial teams to deliver an efficient, compliant, and automated onboarding experience for global customers. You will mentor engineers, streamline development processes, and foster a culture of innovation and ownership.

The Boarding Domain

The Boarding Domain’s mission is to build a world-class onboarding platform that provides frictionless, compliant, and efficient access to payment methods while securely managing customer data throughout their lifecycle. Our vision is to develop self-service tools that enable swift, scalable, and seamless onboarding while replacing legacy systems with modern, high-performing solutions like the Welcome Platform.

What you will be doing

  • Define and Lead Engineering Strategy: Set the technical direction for the Boarding Domain in alignment with the SLT, ensuring scalability, security, and performance in line with business objectives.
  • Build a robust and future-proof architecture, leveraging modern cloud-native technologies.
  • Drive technical innovation to improve automation, reduce onboarding time, and enhance compliance capabilities.
  • Deliver Engineering Excellence: Streamline the Boarding Domain’s onboarding process to provide frictionless, compliant, and efficient access to payment methods while managing customer data securely.
  • Lead and Scale a High-Performing Team: Manage and grow a team of engineers, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning; mentor and coach engineers to take ownership and innovate.
  • Create an environment where product, engineering, and compliance work together to deliver business value.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: Optimise engineering workflows to reduce friction, improve speed, and increase system reliability; continuously improve Boarding API performance for large-scale global customers.
  • Establish KPIs for uptime, latency, error rates, and automation coverage, using data to drive improvements.
  • Ensure Security and Compliance: Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams to build secure, scalable, and compliant onboarding solutions; implement automated risk controls to reduce manual interventions; stay ahead of regulatory changes to meet global requirements.
  • Collaborate with Key Stakeholders: Work with Product, Commercial, and Customer teams to align engineering efforts with business needs; engage with customers and partners to translate challenges into scalable technical solutions; advocate for a customer-first engineering approach.
  • What Success Looks Like: Scalable and resilient onboarding infrastructure enabling high-volume onboarding with minimal downtime; faster and frictionless onboarding experiences; migration to the Welcome Platform without disruption; a high-performing engineering team with agility, autonomy, and a culture of innovation and inclusivity.

You will need to have

  • What We Are Looking For:
  • Engineering Leadership & Execution: Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced, global environment; hands-on when needed to deep dive into technical challenges and guide solutions; track record of delivering scalable, secure, high-performance platforms in fintech, payments, or regulated environments is a plus.
  • Technical Excellence: Deep experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, and API-driven platforms; strong understanding of scalable backend systems, event-driven architectures, CI/CD, DevOps, and security best practices.
  • Business and Customer Focus: Ability to bridge engineering and business needs; data-driven approach to optimise strategies; strong understanding of payments, fintech, and onboarding compliance challenges is advantageous.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Ability to influence and align teams across engineering, product, and compliance; clear, concise communication of technical challenges and business impact; passion for ownership, trust, and continuous improvement.
