Senior Laser Engineer

Mission
We are seeking a Senior Laser Engineer to lead the development, validation, and transition-to-production of advanced laser and electro-optical systems. This position demands a high level of technical expertise, hands-on capability, and cross-functional leadership. The selected candidate will drive system-level innovation, mentor junior engineers, and serve as a key technical authority in customer and supplier engagements. Your contribution will be instrumental in strengthening the company’s technological positioning and accelerating the delivery of next-generation photonic products.

Responsibilities
Technical Leadership in Laser & Electro-Optical Systems

• Lead the design, development, and prototyping of complex laser and electro-optical assemblies.
• Architect test setups for system-level validation and ensure robust characterization of optical, thermal, and electronic performance.
• Oversee critical experiments, analyze complex datasets, and deliver technical insights to support design decisions.
• Guide the design and optimization of custom mechanical and optical test fixtures.

Process Development & Industrial Readiness

• Define and document high-precision build and validation procedures.
• Lead root cause investigations and drive continuous improvements in yield, performance, and manufacturability.
• Actively contribute to product qualification strategies, including design for reliability and compliance with regulatory standards.

Strategic Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Act as a senior liaison with Purchasing to define component specifications, assess technical risks, and qualify suppliers.
• Provide technical leadership in resolving production and integration challenges alongside Manufacturing and Quality teams.
• Collaborate with the PMO to align project objectives with engineering deliverables and risk management practices.
• Support Sales and Business Development teams by providing expert input during customer interactions and proposal phases.

Technology Strategy & Knowledge Transfer

• Monitor emerging trends in photonics, lasers, and electro-optical technologies and identify innovation opportunities.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge sharing and capability building.
• Lead the preparation of technical documentation, customer reports, and publishable content in collaboration with communications teams.
• Participate in occasional travel for customer support, technical reviews, and project kick-offs.

Required Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in laser or electro-optical system development, including hands-on design, alignment, and testing.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of diode and DPSS laser technologies, free-space optics, and electro-optical components.
• Proven ability to lead experimental design, data interpretation, and system validation activities independently.
• Experience working across R&D and production environments, with strong attention to detail and process rigor.
• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
• Prior experience working in regulated or high-reliability industries.
