Essential Responsibilities
- Lead complex projects of diverse scope, driving legal initiatives that support business growth and innovation.
- Participate in complex problem resolution, providing expert legal advice on high‑stakes issues and disputes.
- Provide expert legal advice and support, particularly in areas experiencing significant growth such as compliance, data privacy, and litigation support.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, advising on the implementation of new legal technologies and automation tools.
- Manage legal risks and safeguard PayPal's legal interests, developing comprehensive risk management frameworks.
- Represent PayPal in litigation and other legal proceedings, leading case strategies and ensuring effective representation.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience and a Juris doctorate or equivalent degree.
What the role entails
- Support development and review of marketing and advertising copy and content from concept through execution.
- Draft terms and conditions for promotions, offers and other strategic initiatives.
- Partner with the Product Legal team to review marketing content associated with new products and services.
- Collaborate with other lawyers across the globe on IP, privacy regulatory and litigation matters as it relates to marketing.
- Perform legal and regulatory compliance risk assessments, propose creative solutions where applicable, and help advance business objectives.
- Manage escalations, collaborate across other teams and develop solutions to enable business partners to achieve their goals.
- Develop a strong rapport and working relationship with business counterparts across the enterprise to help drive the delivery of effective legal services.
- Establish efficient, scalable review processes and procedures.
- Provide training to business partners on legal requirements and developments.
What we’re looking for
- Fully qualified lawyer with excellent academic credentials (preferably qualified in European market).
- Extensive marketing legal experience either at a law firm or in‑house, preferably a combination of both; advising marketing professionals on advertising and promotional marketing matters.
- Strong expertise in either payments law / financial services law or e‑commerce law.
- Excellent English language skills; other European languages, ideally German, are a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of regulations and industry guidelines applicable to mobile, social media, and traditional marketing, including GDPR, consumer protection regulations and telemarketing sales rules.
- Excellent drafting, written and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt legal requirements in balanced, creative, and pragmatic ways to facilitate clear and open communication at all levels of the organisation.
- Flexibility to work with colleagues in APAC and the United States to accommodate time‑zone differences.
- Ability to adopt a ‘can do’, solution‑focused and collaborative mindset.
- Expertise in risk management, compliance, and regulatory frameworks as they relate to marketing and advertising.
- Skilled at identifying business and legal issues, providing risk‑based recommendations, and contributing to strategic business conversations in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience navigating complex legal issues around digital marketing, social media, and emerging technologies.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of collaborating with business and cross‑functional leaders at various levels of seniority, across countries.
- Organised and capable of managing and prioritising multiple matters independently under deadline pressure.
