Senior Underwriter /Head of Energy - Power Generation CE Region

Overview

Senior Underwriter / Head of Energy - Power Generation CE Region at Sompo. Location: Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

What You’ll Be Doing

• The role will initially focus on underwriting and developing the Power and Utility sub-class portfolio including Renewables within Continental Europe (CE) with a focus on Central Europe. This includes operational risks as well as construction (CAR/EAR) risks.
• Full and thorough underwriting of all accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines and individual authority granted by Underwriting Management.
• Developing and shaping of underwriting strategy, regional risk appetite, technical underwriting product and guidance in collaboration with the CE Head of Property & Energy.
• Providing meaningful advice and impact on pricing, product, and policy language development.
• Liaise with local CE country underwriting and business development teams to analyse and support new business within the Energy industry.
• Perform the underwriting referral function as needed with colleagues and peers in line with established authority for energy business.
• Build-up of a strong relationship with the regional Sompo Energy teams across London, North America, Singapore, and Brazil ensuring consistent underwriting approach and sharing market/product expertise.
• Monitor all industry and specific account trends and collaborate with our Energy Risk Engineering specialists to develop superior underwriting and industry support.
• Represent Sompo at broker & client meetings and market events.

What You’ll Bring

• 7+ years relevant experience in underwriting operational and CAR/EAR risks for Power and Utilities.
• Preferably a Mechanical/Chemical/Electrical/Civil Engineer degree or equivalent degree with additional Experience and specific technical knowledge of underwriting global Power Generation and Renewables placements.
• Well established relations in and understanding of the CE Energy market.
• Relevant experience in development of product and technical underwriting guidance for Power Generation and Renewables.
• Strong interpersonal skills to develop long-term client relationships.
• Ability to collaborate and influence senior stakeholders within a regional team environment.
• Ability to analyse highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail.
• Excellent language and communication skills in English and ideally in German and/or French.
